Not happy with the changes!
This is my third Weber grill. The last one I had for 16 years. I do not like the changes. I use indirect heating a lot especially for my baby back ribs. On my old grill I would grill them for 3 1/2 hours basting frequently the last 20 minutes. The temperature would be 210 degrees. Perfect for long and slow cooking. This grill's temperature will not go below 310 degrees !! Indirect heating at this temperature is ridiculous.

My old grill had side that were either painted or some sort of fiberglass. They cleaned up with a cleaner spray easily and never showed marks etc. The new grill has a front snd sides made of stainless steel. They are impossible to clean without having streaks. So you have to get an expensive spray for stainless steel and that even takes unnecessary time. And the side shelves show scratches!

Needless to say I am not happy with my new grill. But am stuck with it for now.GrillenDave
Add Ons and Take Aways
Bought the Spirit II E-310 gas grill two month ago after having an old Spirit Weber gas grill for 12 years. Not sure what the designers were thinking for several "take away" reasons:1) taking away the wheels on the left side was a big mistake. To make that mistake worse, they removed the wheels on the same side as the retractable side shelf. In order to move the grill around, you have to lift up on the weaker of the two shelves, which is dangerous, 2) taking away the enclosed shelf below. They removed the closable doors, which exposes much needed storage space to the elements, 3) the hood is made out of a much cheaper/lighter metal. On the other hand, the ignition system is far superior to the old side push button. I also appreciate the increase in BTU's. I'm saying I'd recommend this grill to a friend because it's a Weber but I'm not sure that I would with all these changes that don't make sense for the griller - they just seem to be an effort to cut costs.Patty56
Solid Grill
The Spirit II E-310 has met my expectations well. The cast iron grates coupled with the stainless burners are the biggest and best features. They are best in class. The igniter seems to be far advanced to previous versions used on many grill brands. The platform is solid and plenty robust for a mostly stationary grill. The size of the grill surface is perfect for mostly cooking for a couple people by using just two burners. It adequately handles the need to occasionally cook for a larger group employing all three burners. I've had an entire beef tenderloin cut into steaks (about 15 steaks) on the grill at one time. The only problem and the one that keeps me from giving it 5 stars is the side table opposite the wheels (left side - facing the grill). It is the one that will fold down (the other, right side, is stationary). The latch just will not hold when you tilt the grill off its legs to roll it around. If you fold it down, there is nothing to hold on to so that you can lift one side up and move the grill about. It's a disappointment every time I have to move it for any reason. Suggest revising the side table with a more sturdy latch in the up position or provide some sort of handle with the table in the down position.GBFlorida
Everything I was looking for
I bought this grill to replace my beloved Genesis, which I gave to my adult daughter. As an empty nester, the Spirit II is a better size for me. It is a Weber through and through, and is the 8th Weber I have owned, gas and charcoal. I have only owned Webers. Overall the Spirit II performs beautifully and predictably. I do experience some heat variations side to side, but all grills have that, and I simply have to learn the heat pattern. The one other observation is that when the left shelf is in the folded-down position, rain water will accumulate in the plastic shelf end-cap where the venturi cleaner is stored. The accumulated water splashes out unexpectedly when I lift the shelf into position. A minor matter, for sure, and a couple of holes drilled into the end cap will fix it. Overall, a really nice grill to cook on, direct and indirect. Predictable, reliable, easy to operate, and a great value. I know I will love having it right outside the kitchen door in the winter!Breadman
Good small grill but temperature setting a problem
After having this grill and using it for a couple of months I have to revise my original 5 Star to a 3 Star. The reason for this is the temperature control of the grill. We have been experiencing 90 degree weather and trying to regulate a low temp. is difficult. I replaced a Genesis Silver II with this one and I had no problems with it, even if I wanted to slow cook in the 250 degree range. The Spirit, if I start out on low eventually works itself up to 350 to 375 degrees. I have to turn a burner off to get it to run around 350 degree. I haven't even tried slow cooking on it. I don't know if it is the design of the lid or what. I do think Weber needs to make some modifications on them and correct or replace the ones in consumer use. Certainly a major problem which needs correcting. I'm hoping in cold temperatures it has enough to get the temperature up in the higher range. Just doesn't appear the controls change the flame size much. I should have kept my Genesis Silver II.Jake1 now 2
