Terrible Grates
I purchased this grill in May 2018. It is a good sturdy, compact grill that is just the right size for a small deck. I love this grill except for the porcelain grates. I used the grill according to the instructions included in the box on how to best care for the TRU-Infrared porcelain grates. (Never used any metal tool, even the included scraper, which is metal. Only used silicon tongs and plastic spatula. I brushed it with the Char-Broil Nylon brush. ) After 4 to 5 uses, by the end of May, I had noticed that the porcelain was peeling off. I called customer service and sent them pictures of how bad the porcelain coating was peeling. They sent me a new set of grates at no charge and I was hoping that it was just manufacturing defect in the original grates. Nope. After 4 to 5 uses, I noticed again, that the porcelain coating was peeling off the cast iron. I called customer service again and sent them pictures. Once again, they sent me new set of grates and by mid-July, I had received my 3rd set of grates. (2nd replacement set). Now with this set, I "babied" them. I never put the temperature higher than medium, used canola oil to season the pan before and after use. I also preheated the BBQ on a low-medium temperature until it was the right temperature for whatever I was cooking. I used it about 5-6 times before I gave the grate a soap bath using Seventh Generation dish soap that I use for all of my porcelain coated cast iron pots and pans. Would you believe that I still found the porcelain peeling off!? So I called Char-Broil once more and sent them pictures. The customer service agent told me she was going to 'escalate' it (not the term she used, but that was the idea). I asked to get a replacement grill, since they cannot send me grates that did not come with the original equipment. I am not comfortable with the fact that the porcelain coating (“a glass-like composition” according to their manual) is coming off onto the food I serve my family and friends! I was directed to call Walmart because that is where we purchased it. The woman I spoke to today (December 10, 2018) was incredibly nice and helpful but Walmart was not able to offer a refund because it was outside of the 90 day window for returns. I can understand that but the reason for that is because of all the back and forth with Char-Broil and trying to get a solution to this continuing problem, for about six months. Walmart contacted Char-Broil for me. We ended up speaking with a supervisor, Kyle, who was also very polite, but we were informed that this is a “cleaning and maintenance” problem on our end, so we would no longer be able to get help under warranty. I disagree. We were told that soaking the grates in the sink was likely the problem, that we were cleaning them too much. Like I said previously, I don’t think that a grill/grate should have to be babied this much. In an attempt to help prevent this in the future Kyle is sending us a Char-Broil grate cleaner. This is far from the solution I was hoping for. This was a big purchase for us, one that has taken a very disappointing turn. All I wanted was to downgrade to the cheaper, regular grill, the one with the regular grates that don’t cause these kinds of problems. Not the quality that I expected with a name like Char-Broil.MMaldon
Amazing flavor from this little grill!
Love this little grill! Has more room than expected. The flavor is absolutely amazing!! Cooks food fast - 2X that of normal gas grill. Cooks evenly. I am a women and put this together on my own. My husband just raves about the flavor of burgers coming off this grill. INFARED is the only way to go! It smokes more than a normal gas grill, which is mentioned so watch the open windows. Shipping was quick and free. No complaints.Wess
great grill
picked this up at walmart on sale for $100.00 . easy to put together and is very sturdy.

cooks great and clean up is easy , i just turn it high for a few minutes to burn off the left over food parts. before i use it the next time i take the grates out and clean them with a soft brush and water before putting them back on tomwarm up the grill.

only two things bother me and that is the description of the thermometer . it does not read the burner temp like it states and just reads to temp of the whole grill. Also a lot of grease etc gets down under the burners so you have to clean that also.

but all in all a nice grilldusty
Great purchase
This bbq was a great purchase. The price was $100 moremfrom another store for the exact same thing. It went together easily and cooks everything beautifully. Great purchase!!!Angel18
what a great grill
Assembly is now a breeze!! 3 different kinds of screw and washers for this model. i would say a female would be able to assemble this without any problems at all. My wife got it from the Fed-Ex guy and he said "oh boy.....good luck putting that together" she said my husband is a whiz. well mr fed-ex man i had this grill assembled in 32 minutes. LOL. 11mm wrench and a philips head and a magnetic light and your good. solid construction for sure! the surface area is a great size i would say big enough for 2 huge steaks and 6-8 hamburgers. Caster wheels making moving it a breeze and 2 of them lock. for $198 and a $18 cover from amazon, this should last a few years. grates are ONE PIECE thank god. I had the old charbroil with the 2 piece anti-flare up grates and those were horribly expensive and tough to clean. Were gonna try it out this evening with chicken, steak, and burgers. with the porcelain coated grates I'm thinking spraying some pam on the grates beforehand will help from food sticking and make cleanup a breeze.ronjon4006
